Though I once did meet Harlan Ellison, and — bingo — he was a total jerkwad in person.

He and Jerry Pournelle are the two most awful writers it’s been my misfortune to encounter.

Bruce Sterling was - on one occasion - condescending and assumed my question and dismissed it. I told him - sharply - that he wasn’t listening. I never bought another of his books after that, at least partially because of that, but mostly because he got boring.
