CL, have you read Nixonland ever? That’s a fascinating read. The author’s thesis is pretty much to understand how a lot of people who had supported Kennedy, LBJ, and Humphrey found themselves supporting Nixon in his landslide over McGovern in 1972. Rick Perlstein apparently also has a follow up book about the rise of the Reagan era that sounds interesting. I remember an old L&O episode I watched. It was about a cold case of a campus security guard who had shot an undercover cop who was an agent provaceteur among the student activists. The guy’s son said something that stood with me “My old man made fun of Nixon in the 60’s but then he voted for him.” People like my mom’s folks were that though I don’t think either of them ever entertained the thought of voting for Nixon or Reagan for that matter. They were Reagan Democrats without the voting for Reagan part heh- conservative, blue collar, ethnic people.

No, I haven’t, but I’ll def put it on my wish list—thanks! I’m still trying to slog my way through the white nationalist stuff (Blood and Politics) and I have books on WWI, WWII, and LBJ waiting in the wings. And that doesn’t even count all the other stuff on my Kindle (fiction, art, science, etc.)

So many books, so little time. *SIGH*
