I have to disagree with you on that one, after all NATO expanded right up to the borders of the Russian Federation.

Not that it justifies what Putin has been doing in the Crimea or Donbass.

You may be justified in arguing that the Bear is in fact responding to earlier NATO expansion, but that’s in the past now, and today, we have to deal with a more aggressive Bear, so while NATO might be faulted, right now, it is more necessary than before. However how effective it is in its current form reminds me of the Magino Line, ie the French always ready to fight the previous war. NATO is a WWII/Cold War tool at best, and obviously ill-suited to the current climate.
