Has anyone in the Trump family and I’m including the extended clan here ever served at all? We know Donald didn’t. We know Fred didn’t. And we know Dumb and Dumber didn’t eitehr.

No. None have.

The overwhelming majority of Americans have never been in the military. I get that. The military is not some sacred trust, nor its veterans some saints to be venerated.

The military cannot accomplish its mission without the overwhelming majority of people who were never enlisted nor commissioned, doing the jobs they do every day.

President Obama was not in the military either, nor as far as I know any of his family members.

However, President Obama gets the point of military service, of veterans who are one and done, made a career, were disabled, or perished in combat. For Mr. Obama, the marking of the day is not about him.

Despite the claims of conservatives, Mr. Obama deeply cared about the status of the troops. He cared when they deserved recognition, which is why he pushed the DOD to approve those who were submitted for the Congressional Medal of Honor.
