The ‘left/right’ scale doesn’t really apply to totalitarian dictatorships. It’s idiotic to argue over it. Hitler came to power through the ‘lright’ wing, Stalin came to power through the ‘left’. Whether or not there’s any reality to that depends on whether you think that either of them actually believed in what they stated to be their ideals. Stalin was a complete hypocrite according to any philosophically sound version of communism, but Hitler really was the ideal Nazi.

Militarism and homophobia (outside the United States) do not correlate much at all with left/right ideology.

Militarism is a weird term that is close to meaningless. However, if you examine the right wing in Europe, you’ll find that that it subscribes to the same types of reactionary homophobia as the left wing does.
