Yes, I have some distant relations that were in the Slovenian Home Guard. Others who were Partisans. There’s no doubt at all that the Nazis did take advantage of the culture of Anti-Semitism in Europe that goes back generations and despite what hacks like Horowitz and Jonah Goldberg believe was far from left wing.

There was a big stink in Poland about an incident in Jedwabne, in which the Polish peasants themselves locked the local Jews in a barn and immolated them alive while the German occupiers simply looked on. It does not at all fit in with the Poles’ self-image as victims.
