I seriously doubt Baker would have changed his mind about Nixon without corroborating evidence.

So he needed strong evidence before he decided the President of the United States had committed impeachable offenses. Go figure.

My point is not that Baker was any kind of saint at all. I merely mean to point out that I find it amazing that a Republican Senator who Nixon was counting on to save his ass saw the light AND went on to a long career within the party afterwards. Whether you admire him or not (or disagree with his assessment of Dean), you have to admit a career like his is now virtually impossible in today’s political climate.
