Jeb would do well to remember Senator McCain who too had a reputation of being reasonable on this issue but then moved to the right on the issue to pander to the GOP base.

Romney as well. His aggressive move to get to the right of Perry on immigration and his “self-deportation” comment cost him any chance he may have had to win over Hispanics. With his family’s Mexican roots, one would think he would’ve had a chance to connect with them, but he blew it. Considering how weak the GOP field was, Romney made a huge miscalculation. He should’ve taken a slight risk in the primaries and stayed in the center to maintain his viability in the general election. With minority votes representing an ever increasing percentage of the electorate, you can’t play to the GOP Base and win in the general election.
