Thanks, but if you look again, I was talking about the gadje all over Eastern/Central Europe, not just the Czechs, hence the naming problem.

Roma are more and more moving to the US, and I’m glad of it. Though this is not a good place to be poor and rootless, there’s a hell of a lot less persecution of Roma here than in Europe, and no attempts to simply destroy their culture.

My wife is part Roma. It is absolutely amazing how many people who don’t consider themselves racist in the least are fine with punitive anti-Roma measures. What’s nuts is how many just can’t figure out why the Roma are dispossessed, untrusting, and have high rates of petty crime— gee, could it be because they’ve been enslaved, persecuted, and killed for centuries and centuries, that they’ve been completely kept out of mainstream society?

Agree 100%, and don’t get me started!
