That didn’t stop the 2004 GOP national convention attendees from wearing Purple Heart band-aids in order to take a swipe at Kerry.
The Swift Boat Vets exposed the lie in the GOP’s respect for the military. They only give a damn if you’ve got an (R) after your name. If you’re a vet with a (D) after your name then somehow you didn’t deserve your medals or serve “properly”.
Then again, the 2000 GOP primaries talking about McCain being a Manchurian candidate and a Viet Cong sleeper agent pretty much exposed the GOP as hypocrites, so 2004 shouldn’t have surprised anyone.
