CuriousLurker, just to continue the conversation about voting below, here’s how conservatives think. The article you copied said

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged … .”

And while that language is used, it’s not the full text. The full sentence reads

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

In conservative terms, and I’ve had this argument with conservatives, all of these amendments prevent discrimination based on age, gender, or race. It says nothing about a guarantee to vote. It just says that if voting is allowed, then we can’t restrict it this way. There’s nothing that explicitly says that you have a right to vote.

Remember, these are the same people who say that the 10th allows anything not mentioned in the constitution, and then restricts abortion and all sorts of stuff because it’s not mentioned.
