If we do end up with a multi-party system, then we will have a serious problem, because our electoral system is winner-take-all, with no runoff elections. It takes 270 electoral college votes to elect a president, for example.

We would need to adopt a more parliamentary system in order for that to work.

How satisfying and hilarious it would be if the Tea Party set things in motion for America to adopt a more European style of government
