Marine archeology is a fascinating subject - the remains of human settlements are under water all around the world. Given the attraction sea shores have had to H. sapiens - probably due to abundant protein sources - a great deal of the background, pre-history if you will, of our species is likely under water.

Of course it is. The last ice age maximum created land bridges and extended sea shore for miles. Much of that civilization is now under several dozens of feet of water. Tough to excavate and document, though.
