He should have chosen Rudy, but remember he was trying to placate the Ingraham/Malkin contingent. They demanded a hard core pro-lifer, so he chose Palin.

And to thank him for choosing exactly the kind of person they wanted, they still slammed him up until the election and frequently since then as well.

The GOP is well on there way to repeat that. Ingraham and Malkin didn’t even support McCain until the very last minute and it was feeble at best.
