Yep. And the article I linked to above wasn’t even about GM, it was about Chrysler! To an extent, the UAW contributed to the problems at Chrysler, and now they’re being rewarded with a 55 percent ownership.

Madness.

subsailor68 -

As an ex- UAW’er - put it this way - we couldn’t build them any better than they were designed. To emphasize the point - look at the UAW Represented Plants in Fremont, CA (NUMMI), Normal, IL (former “Diamond-Star”) and Flat Rock, MI (Mazda/Ford). Design and production processes were and remain managerial perogatives. Pay, Benefits and “Industrial Due Process” the province of the Union as it interacts with management.
Could things have been handled better on both sides? Certainly, yes - and -
“coulda, shoulda, woulda” won’t buy a Bus Ticket without the fare.
Do I believe that 55% ownership of Chrysler is Fair - NO! Do I suspect the Union will hold the shares forever if the new company becomes profitable -
Again NO! They will cash out as required to pay legacy benefits. My problem is that their allocated share is unfair.
