Some Chinese, especially women, are obsessed with keeping their skin as pale as possible. Pale skin = comparative wealth. Dark skin = peasant (from being in the sun all day). There are also a variety of skin lighteners in the shops for those born with naturally dark skin.

The face masks are a bit over the top, though.

Have these women ever heard the phrase “the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice”? I love me a Red Bone. (if you don’t know what that is, look it up. I’m not doing your homework)
