Got mine removed at the same age. Worst extended pain I ever felt in my life.

I had recurrent appendicitis (appendix was positioned wrong and would be pinched off periodically).

I had a second surgery aboard ship when the scar burst open in the chow hall and blood spread across my shirt during dinner hours. Made a lot of people sick as my best friend dragged me to sickbay.

Turns out a fistula had developed in my intestine at the surgical scar, and all that crap was pouring into my abdominal cavity. Spent a couple weeks in sickbay after they opened me back up and cleaned all that out.
