In yesterday’s discussion of the rise of Phyllis Schlafly and the GOP right I mentioned their specific targeting of Nelson Rockefeller as the alleged mastermind of the liberal Republicans. I neglected to emphasize that many of today’s conspiracy culture staples, claims about the Tri-Lateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations, many Federal Reserve claims, even anti-fluoridation and some early anti-vaxx, originated in this anti-Rockefeller campaign. Rocky was Satan as far as early Birchers were concerned. It is no surprise that Alex Jones and Jerome Corsi are linked to Trump operatives, they are part of the same historical movement.
