OK, I know it’s been a long day and i’m super tired due to lack of sleep and whatnot, but am I really the only one who can’t quite make sense of part of the following paragraphs (taken from the start of a commentary on Israeli media in English)?

IDF and Hamas enter the second day of “Operation Protective Edge”, with both parties acting in contrasting ways: Hamas has activated thus far most of its repertoire prepared in advanced for this round of fighting, but has failed to cause casualties or major damage to Israel.

However, the IDF began the operation with moderation on its behalf, and works according to an orderly plan of attacking targets, which have become increasingly intense. The objective of the IDF is to put gradual pressure, which will continue to increase, without exhausting all the qualitative targets, within the first two-three days. The growing pressure should lead Hamas to consider at any given moment the continued profitability of the fighting.

It has come to be seen that by the end of the first day of Operation Protective Edge, Hamas, with the assistance of Islamic Jihad, tried to surprise with a heavy attack on Israeli territory. For this reason, Hamas sent a Marine squad to attack in the area of kibbutz Zikim, while in parallel volleys of missiles were fired on large areas of Israel, including Tel Aviv, the Sharon Plain and Jerusalem. The firing of rockets even arrived the northern city of Hadera.
