The Swift Boat Vets exposed the lie in the GOP’s respect for the military. They only give a damn if you’ve got an (R) after your name. If you’re a vet with a (D) after your name then somehow you didn’t deserve your medals or serve “properly”.

Then again, the 2000 GOP primaries talking about McCain being a Manchurian candidate and a Viet Ccong sleeper agent pretty much exposed the GOP as hypocrites, so 2004 shouldn’t have surprised anyone.

They still hate on McCain all the time, though I think by this point it’s due to lingering resentment over his winning the nomination in ‘08 instead of a “true conservative.”
