Maybe things will get better, maybe not. Articles written by wiser people than I in the 1950s and 60s about the World in the Year 2000 incite us to modesty when it comes to predictions. I would still hazard a guess that the American Century is over.

We get about two more chances to choose how bad it will get and how long it will stay bad.
