To me, though, Nicholson was playing Nicholson. I never saw anything but Jack Nicholson. I couldn’t see Heath Ledger inside the Joker.

I’ll give you that but Nicholson was definitely having fun. The Joker is such a great role because you can be an asshole and have fun at the same time. I can see why actors like it.
