The whole point of the Amendment was so that people who own guns could supplement the military in times of major conflict.

The early nation didn’t really have much of a military. Indeed, the US Military Academy wasn’t even found until right after the start of the 19th century.

I agree that the 2A really is about militias as envisioned each State would keep such. But alas, the gun fetish cult has been so deeply entrenched in America that the historical perspective is totally lost.
