If this HADN’T been eyes-only material in 1980, would it have torpedoed Reagan’s presidential hopes? Or would it have just brought the racism back to the surface from the elephant’s underbelly faster?

The media landscape was different, there were also still some decent folks in the GOP who would have reacted with other than indifference or denial.
