There was not a single private investor that was willing to put up their own capital into GM. Not one.

Hard to do a “managed bankruptcy” when everyone in rwmofo’s vaunted private sector who would be able to sink money into it knows they’ll either be out that money the moment they put it in (like the other debt holders) or the ROI wouldn’t be large enough, fast enough for them; hence, the only viable investor in this situation WAS the federal government.
