Would my shooting death have been justified?

Under current Florida law, yes. Having struck first, the other guy could legitimately shoot you and claim justification. And if you survived and tried to sue him, Stand-Your-Ground has a provision that would likely dismiss your suit and make you responsible for any expenses he incurred in fighting your suit.
