It’s hard to be that standoffish in the Senate, there’s only 100 of them, and they tend to be there for a long time. Plus, there tend to be a lot of lawyers in politics and lawyers have this way of putting aside policy differences to be friendly/cordial (I think we get trained to compartmentalize stuff because in one case we will be arguing X and in the next we will be arguing Not X). Either that, or its all kayfabe after all.

Biden said that is exactly what has happened. The communal lunch room was removed. The left and right sides of the aisle do not speak to each other outside of sessions. It’s bad for America that this is what has happened.

And some of these younger guys (Cotton for example) are Fox News, Breitbart, etc. folks - they grew up on right wing nonsense and are true believers. How do you narrow the divide between people who have been indoctrinated by right wing world? You do what Biden said used to be but no longer is. You humanize each other.
