Regarding Russian ineptitude….I was a high school exchange student from the US to the Soviet Union in the mid 1970’s. We arrived at the University of Leningrad and I went to use the vanya (bathroom) and noticed that the toilet paper had visible wood chips in it. I took a roll home with me months later and when giving a talk about my experience I showed it to my classmates and proclaimed that this is why I am certain we will win the cold war.

Now it’s called “artisanal.”
