re: #510 Renaissance_Man

You’re wrong. A business transacts in the free market of the public sphere. It does so using public works, public resources such as roads and utilities, and is authorised to do so under the auspices of the government.

And it pays to do so under the threat of force, actually, but that is for another discussion. Businesses pay taxes for all of these services and these services are given equally to anyone.

This doesn’t mention the fact that these “public services” are forced on people without their consent.

Additionally if the government regulates the market and who may do business in it, it’s not a free market.

Back to the topic at hand however…

The regulation and protection of the free market is indeed one of the roles of government, and equality of opportunity in the free market is indeed one of the rights this country chooses to espouse.

Equality of opportunity does not equal a right to the goods and services of others. As the owner of the property the business owner may choose to do business with whoever they want, this is the fundamental right of free action.

You appear to be confused as to the function of a government, and what a civil right actually is.

Not confused at all actually, and in fact there really are no “civil rights” there are only individual rights. The only legitimate function of government is to protect the rights of individuals.
