Well, I’ve seen an undrugged white tail deer just stand in the open and look around puzzled while I missed it three times at about 100m. Really made me question my marksmanship and how well the rifle scope was set. Have seen that same behavior with other animals as well - the noise disturbs them, but they don’t detect it as a direct threat sometimes until something like a near miss spatters them with dirt.
