re: #508 oaktree
I’m careful about dumping on corporations and hazardous waste at times. Partially due to knowledge about some chemicals being lacking for a long time (PCPs being one.) And also due to the fact that some corporations inherited contaminated land by purchase that they had not contaminated themselves. And they got sued at a later point due to being the ones with the “deep pockets”.*
Though there is also a great deal of abuse out there as well. A lot of guilt, but I’m not in the “all corporations are evil by default ” club.
* - Corporation my father worked for bought site in the 50’s that had old transformers on it (PCPs). Site was sold in the early 70’s with the transformers still there; e.g. corporation did not disturb them, or add to them, and had no scientific knowledge at the time that they were dangerous. Corporation was sued for clean-up costs in the 80s (with my father called on to submit a deposition.)
I worked for BASF Wyandotte for a couple of years in the ‘80’s. Wrote some totally non-Y2K-compliant code while I was there, because we had to conserve 10’s of K of RAM.
