I used to believe it was better to let hate groups like this expose themselves to the public. But I can’t really support that belief any more. In the Internet era it seems that groups like this actually gain strength when they’re allowed to demonstrate in public.

I don’t know what the solution is. But I think the classic model of absolutist free speech is dangerously insufficient in the modern age.

Respectfully, as a believer in the critical importance of free speech, letting the state censure speech based on its content makes me uneasy. The ACLU protects the free speech rights of scum like the Klan and the Nazis to ensure the free speech rights of the rest of us.
