Yes, actually, I have read The Hot Zone. And no, none of those who got sick did so from water or food. The first person to get sick in the book did so by traveling into a cave inhabited by bats, while another came in contact with the first. The rest of the book deals with the Ebola Reston outbreak, which is harmless to humans.
