Listening is one thing, but if the other person is primarily using the charge of ‘privilege’ as a weapon, then the situation changes. They don’t have to scream to do that, and I admit that it is not always straightforward determining if that is what is going on. Like most social rules, it takes a fair bit of good judgement to distinguish between just anger and self-serving rhetoric.

Presumably if you’re in a conversation with someone on a topic of mutual interest, and they say your perspective might be clouded by privilege, you could talk about that, and agree, disagree, or come to no conclusion about the accuracy of the statement.

Are you (and I’d like to ask GunstarGreen also) saying that bringing up privilege is tactical move and no longer an exchange of information?
