Hey Rogue—I think they were just going for threatening vandalism, but I noted a comment above about the risks. Under the right conditions (low humidity) a cut gas line can self-ignite via static built up by free-flow. What you would get is a fairly impressive flame front where the fuel/air mixture is right. NFPA sells their literature, so you won’t find much online.

True. In this state, which I assume is fairly standard, tanks have to have a blowback device on them at the valve. It keeps them from exploding.
