re: #463 The Shadow Do

Context, Fallujah I, the reporter was asking an obviously leading question working the PTSD angle asking something to the effect of how do you feel when you have to kill people.

How if the hell do you think he feels? They are indeed woman beating freaks. He was damn happy to kill them as opposed to vice versa. Or would a bit of dishonesty from the Marine have suited you better?

Not at all. I would rather the Marine be open and honest about his feelings. However, knowing his feelings, if I was his CO I would put him somewhere out of contact with other people. His attitude is a danger to Iraqis and his fellow Marines. He could very well put his brothers in jeopardy. I would have to question his ability to differentiate between the Iraqis supporting Sadam and those opposing him.

In the question asked, was the choice ‘kill them rather than having them kill you’ given?

I understand the need to dehumanize the enemy to reduce the stress on military members when they rejoin general society, but the war in Iraq is not the same as WWII, and if wife beating is justification for killing, there should be a lot of dead husbands in North America.

Wife beating is vile and there is no excuse for it, but we in Western society have deemed it worthy of fines, jail time and divorce, as well as ostracization, but it is not considered for the death penalty.
