No solution proposed by Americans involves reducing the number of guns. Americans, even supposedly reasonable ones, reasonable and responsible gun owners, do not and will not support any measure that might reduce the number of guns, or restrict the purchase of guns in any meaningful way. The majority of the American people might not like gun massacres, but they like having gun massacres more than they would like any reduction in the number of guns, or any significant impediment that would stop people easily acquiring guns. To the American consciousness, guns are more sacred than anything. Nothing is more important than keeping precious, precious guns.

I disagree. IIRC only 36% of Americans are gun owners or live with a person who owns a gun. Of the 64% of Americans who do not own guns I betcha damn near every one of them would be happy to see guns gone or at least severely restricted. It’s assumptions such as you make that help keep our gun culture and these horrific massacres alive and well.
