this isn’t really true, of course. and is anathema (i’d use a stronger word if i could think of one) to committed progressives, but imho it shows strategic political thinking and an understanding that most people are not like progressive political nerds immersed in the details of positions, but rather sportsball adherents who vote by feel

It shows a political thinking, a safe one that basically implies no change. It doesn’t show very strategic thinking. The goal is to get people to vote, and, as much as I hate Democrats for this, some of them have to be inspired beyond “They’ll throw you in a camp after they have forced you to give birth to the child whose father is a rapist.”
