I sorta agree with him but for different reasons, namely that SOCIAL MEDIA are not meant to be reliable sources of news, much less arbiters of truth.

The fact that people rely on them as such is turning out to be a major problem for our country.

The problem is in the expectation that Facebook or Twitter are reliable sources of ANYTHING. They are sewers. They are neither objective or reliabile. Like the wikis, an okay place to start your research but a bad place to finish it.
