I’d like to see other reports on what was actually said. If it’s true that the only relevant words uttered were “Wow, the jets are right next to my window”, then this was indeed unjustified.

Of course, if added to that was something like “it’d be pretty easy to bomb them” or some such thing, that’s a horse of a different color.

I’m suspicious because those words about the jets don’t set off red flags for any normal person. I’m betting there is much more to the story.

Because the pilot would have asked what was overheard, and for the reporting passenger to say: “They said: Wow, those jets are close to my window.” and then for the pilot to say: “That sound serious,” doesn’t make sense at all.
