The Gun culture has had over 200 + years to establish itself. It is, part and parcel, a part of us for better or worse.

Live with it.

Furthermore, the ‘gun culture’ isn’t really 200+ years old. It’s more like 30, which is about the time that gun manufacturers started to use the NRA to really push firearms as magic wands and ramping up paranoia and fear to sell more guns. As gun fantasists are fond of pointing out, gun massacres really weren’t all that common many decades ago, before guns were treated as sacred objects that required human sacrifice to maintain all freedoms.

I feel pretty confident that the cult of the Gun, being only decades old, can become as marginalised and ridiculed as other paranoid fantasies, such as alien abduction and black helicopters. It will take time and patience, as with many things.

And no, I don’t think Americans have to live with it, as you say. Because, quite frankly, many thousands of them don’t live with it.
