IIRC, that’s a hold over from when Texas was a republic.

I must have missed it in my Texas history class. I’ve lived here my whole life and can’t remember ever saying it. If we ever had to say a Pledge in school, it was the one to the United States.

What a strange thing. It caught me completely off guard to hear it this morning.
