China is already planning to move some manufacturing across the border into Vietnam and Laos, so they can slap a “Made in Vietnam/Laos” label on stuff to avoid the anti-China tariffs. But people in Vietnam and Laos are not too keen on the idea, since they’ll do all the work and get few of the benefits.

Wouldn’t the Vietnamese and/or Laotians be at least moderately grateful for the jobs said investment would provide? Vietnam, I know, has something of a manufacturing sector, but I hadn’t thought there even were any factories in Laos.
