The plans for the main library at UMass Amherst were bought from an architect who either did not design the building to be a library, or did not take the weight of the books into account. I can’t remember.

The building is sinking.

It’s fine, it goes down very evenly, and will eventually hit bedrock in a couple of hundred years if it’s kept up that long, but it is burrowing down ever so slowly.

And there’s a fence around it, because occasionally bricks pop out of the facade.
