I find ‘christian’ kind of rubbish as a label anyways. Not trying to offend anyone but its just way too broad to be useful to me. Now someone identifying themselves as Catholic or Baptist or what have you tends to give you an actual sense of their beliefs.

I also try not to reach too far back into history either. For the same reasons that I hate people saying “But the democrats supported slavery!” Generally try to keep my examples from the last 100 years or so.

Id consider the repression of Buddhists under Diem a valid example, but probably not the Inquisition. But then that wasn’t sanctioned by Rome either and had a very strong ethnic dimension to it as well (as these things tend to have)…
