I think they can play lots of games, they’ve been given plenty of rope. If Assad can resist major atrocities for the next 6 months he’ll be fine. Even minor atrocities will probably be ignored and balanced out by rebels being dickheads. It’s kind of ironic that for the diplomatic dance to work for Assad he needs to string out the killing and not do it all at once. If this is still going on in 5 or 10 years then the international community might step in but Assad has bought himself a lot of time.
