We’ve known Trump doesn’t give a shit about US troops and lives lost; we see that the GOP treats them as disposable heroes. Now we’ve got Tillerson all but admitting we’re sending troops to Afghanistan not to win, but to deny Taliban a win - which means it’s a meat grinder that serves no further purpose since the Taliban don’t have the means to hit the US and that no amount of US troops short of a major deployment above 130,000 would deal with. Sending 3-4,000 troops isn’t going to solve anything - not when 100,000 didn’t.
All it means is Trump’s kicking the can down the road and claiming he’s hit on a new strategy when it’s a continuation of 17 years of policy.
