Longer-term, as demographic changes in the US play out, I still maintain the GOP’s destiny - if they continue on the current path - is to become a regional party of the Deep South (the old CSA), with islands of support in the rural parts of the West Coast states and the Midwest.

What’s interesting is they might be in danger of losing the larger states of the deep south. Georgia and Texas aren’t just in play this year. They’re in for the long haul. The GOP is going to rue the day that they decided to become a party that panders to the whims of white nativism. Say what you will about W but the man at least saw that Hispanics and Asians were growing as a demographic and thought it would be politically smart to make the GOP a welcoming place for them. That doesn’t mean he was a good President but it does show that his awareness of the country was a lot more higher than Trump or even Romney’s ever was.
