re: #42 reine.de.tout

This AZ law is stupidity and awfulness.

But I think it’s also true that people in Arizona are feeling under seige from the very dangerous criminal element sneaking into their state. They have a reasonable concern (although this law is not the solution), and I think it’s important that their concerns are recognized, just as we can recognize that this law is terrible.

If the folks responsible for the security of our borders (Washington, DC, going back for decades) had done their jobs instead of bowing to pressures, then perhaps AZ would not have become so desperate that they felt they needed their own law. And if the folks responsible for the security of our borders don’t take this as a wake-up call and figure out how to deal with these problems, I’m afraid other states will take it upon themselves to try to deal with, with similarly awful laws.

Calling those who had input into this law Nazis - it may be absolutely true!
But it does nothing to help the folks in AZ. What could help them is communication with your congress-critters that DC needs to wake up and figure this out.

And the GOP scuttled their own president when he tried to.

Just like they dropped the climate bill over this - or at least used that as an excuse.

Look, if you really want to solve this issue it is super simple, you go after the people who are paying for it. You prosecute the employers who are breaking the law - and you enforce the minimum wage. Justice would be that you have the back salaries of illegals paid by the employer up to minimum wage in one fat check handed to the illegal before he was deported. However, the GOP won’t have that.
