Honestly - none of the national reporting I saw in the immediate aftermath of Katrina was very good.

there was a blog called “interdictor” which was a better source of katrina news than any national news source, basically a guy holed up in an IT colo, keeping the servers running with a diesel generators, and he became sort of a news focus

I think my favorite bit of grim humor in the Katrina aftermath was when the police started referring to the people who refused to evacuate the superdome, starting fights, etc, as “Die Hard Saints Fans”
